The scheme achieves the substantial remodelling of an existing house that failed to capitalise on the specatacular qualities of its site. The existing is stripped of superfluous and contextually inappropriate-detail, its internal volumes adjusted to form an open plan living space and its fenestration reordered to provide carefully framed views of the surrounding landsacpe. A new bedroomwing is sited adjacent to the remodelled house, its low mono-pitched form reflecting the precedent of the agricultural buildings that once occupied the site. The wing encloses a sheltered southerly courtyard that, accessed via a new and highly glazed link, captures dramatic views to Benbulben.
