Situated on a rural site benefitting from distant views to both Mullaghmore and Benbulben, the scheme is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional long-house, its dominant horizontality carefully balanced by a substantial chimney and a projecting window that serves to illuminate the stair. The brief required a significant amount of accommodation at ground floor level but only a limited number of rooms in the storey above and so the roof form is carefully modified, both to reflect the precedent of bthe traditional cottage and adjoining shed, and to minimise the apparent scale of the house.
